Lux Aeterna

Lux Aeterna explores the nature of perception by turning a foreign location into a phenomena using movement and degrees of light. A non-terrestrial landscape is being unwrapped and transformed into an internal space that creates a plat between material and immaterial.

The piece uses the data of an alien planet, Mars’s topography as a base to explore the movement in space and translates it into an experience for the viewer that gives an ability to think spatially about data by making it physical. Kinetic motion transfers the sensation of information to the audience through ethereal changes in light and generative sound. The path the Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars is directly translated into the motion of the LEDs, and the brightness of the each voxel is sent via an OSC message to proportionally control the amplitude of a single sine wave.
